In your life there is your real life and your TV life. (The tv shows you watch to escape your life). In the new hit show, Bob's burgers on Fox on Sunday 8:30pm, this show features a restaurant owner and his family. Bob, has two daughters and one son. The oldest daughter is portrayed as autistic and as far as I can tell -the portrayal is accurate for someone who is mildly affected with this condition. I congratulate them as the show is hysterically funny, the voices alone are done realistically and you feel as if this family exists and their personalities are loving and humorous. I also applaud portraying this limiting condition in a humane kind, real way in a popular format in a time when many would be exposed to the setup by the writers of the show. Now many in America can say well "Tina has Autism so yes its common". Autism is shocking common and the cure for this condition seems to lie in the diet and genes of the afflicted. I have heard numerous cases where diet caused a turn around, almost cure for this huge problem. Science has increased efforts to study Autism so they can pinpoint what is causing this and how we can work with it, and possibly prevent it. Lastly I have to mention Gene and Louise the two other children with vivid imagination and seemingly no help to their father- these kids couldn't be done any more realistically. I feel like I know these children and have seen kids just like this in my office. In real life, these kids could use some discipline but as in real life Bob gets exhausted by their outrageous ideas and behavior and asks them to leave him be. I have seen that as well. My point being, see this show and have a good laugh and realize now our illnesses are so prevalent TV writers decided to add them into our tv life so we can feel at home. This is a good and bad idea. Good because tv is reflecting our reality. So Autism has reached a level of acceptance in our world to be added into tv dramas. Bad because we can't escape into cartoon land as easily since our real life problems followed us there. Hmmmm. Would love to hear your thoughts. Till next time.
